Scrolling through Instagram, you’ve most likely come across some really beautiful shots of Nusa Penida’s famous Kelingking Beach, also known as Secret Point Beach or T-Rex. This majestic little spot rose to fame thanks to its unique shape that some say resembles a T-Rex dinosaur. Locals call it Kelingking, which means pinky finger in English. Whatever you call it, one thing is for sure; this is one spot you must not miss when you next visit Nusa Penida.
It goes without saying that this is one of the most magnificent places in Nusa Penida. You’ll enjoy the most breathtaking views here, and those feeling adventurous, and who are in good shape, can try and climb down to the small, secluded beach below where you’ll most likely have the entire place to yourself. You’ll feel like you’re on your own magical island where nothing and no one can disturb your peace.
Watch Your Step!
To get down to the beach, you’ll need to take on some really steep steps with nothing to help you along the way except for frail bamboo rails. Once you’re down there, you can swim, relax and play to your heart’s content. The water here is not too rough, depending on the tide.
For some mind-blowing views and an adrenaline rush like no other, another great activity is to walk along the cliffs right to the very end of the T-Rex. Remember the path here is narrow and doesn’t come with a safety harness or railings, and it’s a straight drop down hundreds of feet below on either side.
Going to Nusa Penida
Kelingking Beach is just 30 minutes away from the harbour and the road leading here, as with most roads in Nusa Penida, is filled with pot-holes and loose gravel. There have been many accidents where those riding on scooters slip and skid, sustaining some terrible and some not-so-terrible injuries. If you’re not an experienced driver, it’s better to hire a local guide for your safety.
As you view the T-Rex along the cliff’s edge, please be aware there are no railings to prevent you from falling straight down to the rocks below. Remember to watch your footing.
